About Me

I am currently a mathematics graduate student in the Ph.D. program at the University of North Texas. The math page has more details about what type of mathematics I am focusing on currently, talks I have given, and my research activities. I did my undergraduate degree at Carleton College, and I spent sometime working at Epic Systems Corporation in the interim between my undergraduate work and my current graduate pursuits. I worked in the Hosting Division during my time with the company.

My mathematical pursuits have greatly influenced my creative work. I run the CHALK YouTube channel (@CHALKND). Although it originally started with trying to document some adventures abroad in Athens, Greece and Budapest, Hungary, it is now home to vlogs about my Ph.D. process and a number of ‘math explainers’. These explainers vary in level of mathematical rigor and have been very helpful in my own pursuit of becoming a better mathematics communicator. Similarly my art, which you can learn more about on the art page, takes much of its inspirations from the mathematics I study. However, it is not a direct or rigorous application of those ideas.

Outside of mathematics, I have dedicated much time to learning various languages. The three that I have spent the most time on, ordered by hours studied, are Mandarin (汉语), Greek (Ελληνικά), and Hungarian (Magyarul). Aside from my inner linguist, I boulder recreationally and practice Capoeira and code game systems in my free time as well.
